The Lost Crystal

Story

The Lost Crystal will start with Novos is in a mountainous region with his best friend Hadrian. They are both (almost) officers of the Ionian Military, and they are being overseen by Sanguis, a General. Novos and Hadrian and other students are on a training mission, their final exam. Novos and Hadrian are the top of their class, so they're leading the other students. This mission is a recon mission, they're too investigate reported border breakings along a norther valley in the mountains, the border to the country of Solm.

The mission is of great order of importance, as the largest war in humankind's history is taking place between the very large Solm, and it's other sister nations. (Note, on the world map, Solm and Ionia are mostly divided by nearly impassable mountains).

Each nation has their own massive crystal that they worship. The Solm are collecting the Great Crystals of different nations, so they can join them together and because they think they can form their god on the planet.

Battle System

The battle system will be similar to the old school Final Fantasy style, but with a couple additions.

A combo system in the battle will reward players who string together successive attacks with an extra 10% per attack. This combo system will greatly add to the strategy of the more difficult battles, as Time based Magic attacks will allow for longer combos.

Secondly, a limit break system will be in the game. Limit breaks will be handled in a way similar to Final Fantasy VIII, but with a little Final Fantasy IX thrown in there as well. If your hero is at 20% health or lower, he will enter a 'Berserk' mode where the character's regular attack is replaced by a selection of more powerful, and unique attacks. Unlike in Final Fantasy VIII, where if the character is at low health there is a chance of getting their limit, in TLC there is a 100% chance of going into berserk mode. Furthermore, if the character is in berserk mode, they will get a slight speed boost as well. Berserk limit breaks should add to the strategy even more, and keep the player on the edge since you might want to keep the characters at low health for as long as possible.

User Generated Content

One of the most exciting features of the game, will be the capability for user generated content. Users will be able to upload mods(after a quality screening process) ranging from extra levels, to fan dubs, all the way to their own unique RPG. Little to no programming knowledge will be required since the game uses a very simple scripting language (which I am currently calling FXScript'N), which will control almost all aspects of the game.

Shortly after the game's release, I will write some tutorials on how to create your own mods, along with the documentation for the language.

Technical Details

The game runs at a native resolution of 640x360 @ 30fps, but will be able to be upscaled to higher resolutions. Depending on the speed of your computer, various upscaling methods can be used to improve the quality of the image in full screen mode. Scale2X and Scale3X are two of the scaling methods.
