No Versus at Jump

December 11, 2010
Squirrel Emperor

For anyone that was wondering if Final Fantasy Versus XIII would appear at Jump. Well... It's not... As expected.

Nomura tweeted on The 3rd Birthday Twitter earlier today saying that there will not be an exhibit that is related to Fabula Nova Crystallis at the event. All that stuff will be for the FNC Conference, which starts January 11th.

This most likely applies to Agito XIII as well.

Nomura did say to expect some form of notice about the conference next week.

It should be noted however that a couple of years ago at TGS, Square-Enix showed in-game test footage of Versus at Tokyo Game Show, even though Nomura made some comments that a showing for the game was unlikely.

Final Fantasy XIII Nominated for Best RPG of 2010

December 02, 2010
Squirrel Emperor

Final Fantasy XIII has been nominated a Spike Video Game Award for best RPG of 2010.

Other RPGs nominated in this category are Fable III, Fallout: New Vegas and Mass Effect 2.

Interesting enough, the image representing Final Fantasy XIII on the Spike VGA website shows a picture of Ashe, who is a character from Final Fantasy XII.

Hmm...

(edit: They changed the picture)

On a related note...

FFXIII was also just rewarded the Platinum Prize at the PlayStation Awards Ceremony too, which was tweeted here minutes ago.

For those who don't know what that reward is for. PlayStation Awards gives Gold Prize and Platinum Prize awards to games that achieved sales of 500,000 or 1,000,000 units.

FFXIII also won the User Choice Award too. Sony had fans vote on games via the PlayStation Awards website. The winners, in no particular order, were:

* Monster Hunter Portable 2nd G PSP the Best (Capcom, PSP)
* Metal Gear Solid Peace Walker (Konami, PSP)
* Hatsune Miku Project Diva 2nd (Sega, PSP)
* Legend of Heroes: Zero no Kiseki (Falcom, PSP)
* Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 (Square Enix, PS3)
* Final Fantasy XIII (Square Enix, PS3)
* Resident Evil 5 Gold Edition (Capcom, PS3)
* Demon's Souls PS3 the Best (Sony, PS3)
* Yakuza 4 (Sega, PS3)
* God of War III (Sony, PS3)

The 2010 Video Game Awards show airs live on December 11th at 8PM EST/5PM PST on Spike TV.

Square Enix Seeking Final Fantasy Versus XIII Planners

October 18, 2010
Squirrel Emperor

Square-Enix put up a job posting today that they are seeking a large number of planners for Versus XIII. In the listing, they are looking for a Battle Planner and Level Design Planner.

"This position asks for people with experience making PS3 and Xbox 360 package games and those with knowledge of battles and level creation."

Before jumping the gun here, this does not hint at a Versus XB360 port. Both the PS3 and XB360 versions have HD architecture that is complex and have similar planning stages and the only thing that changes is the coding. So it would only make sense to hire someone with current generation platform experience, which is quite normal in the industry.

FFXIII Cancelled DLC and possibility of FFXIII-2 Discussed

October 02, 2010
Squirrel Emperor

Square-Enix recently released the FFXIII Omega Ultimania guide in Japan. In it, Square-Enix discusses downloadable content, which has been canceled due to the team running into more problems with both quality content and technical aspects. The guide says that there would be a extra area called the Seventh Ark, which would be accessed through the third warp gate in Orphan's Cradle. It was designed to be a extra area with optional battles and a quest.

As for Final Fantasy XIII-2, Kitase says that it is a possibility but largely depends on the feedback they get from fans of the game. If they think that there is a demand, it could happen. He goes on to say though that the FFXIII team is already moving onto their next game because Wada wants each team to be able to steadily release one game every two years from now on.

More Versus Tweets

September 28, 2010
Squirrel Emperor

On The Third Birthday Twitter, Nomura made some more tweets about Versus.

"Yesterday, we had meetings about three sections -- maps, events and battles. For the map section, I checked the problem areas that had been fixed. The staff had gone beyond the requests and and filled them with playful elements. I put in orders for additional areas as well."

Nomura got into some details about the maps:
  • The look of a forest that you can see once you've cleared a narrow mountain path.
  • Things that are required when leaving the city by moving on the roofs of buildings.
  • The positioning of the bookshelves in shops
  • How flags are standing
  • How the sea is handled on the world map
  • The roads you can see from the air ship
  • The length of bridges
Nomura said that he can't say too much about events without providing spoilers. He is however checking the following.
  • The look on a character during a short cut in a scene where he or she is leaving.
  • Explanation of a fathers feelings during a conversation scene.
  • The areas that they want to have connected seamlessly, and the areas that they want to connect via cuts.
  • Explanations about the heroines movements.
Nomura explains that the check list gets pretty detailed for both of these areas.

As for battles, Nomura checked up on menu areas yesterday.

"We're doing lots of trial and error on this. When you say Final Fantasy, you think of enemy damage figures flying out and showing player HP. What will we do with these in the action-heavy Versus?"

As for the Twitter activity, Nomura says that Dissidia won't be getting its own twitter account and that they are looking into the possibility of opening up an Agito and Versus account saying that if this happens, their would not be as many comments from the development staff like The Third Birthday Twitter has.
